Nova Scotia Environment regulations require well heads to be above ground. This is a safety measure, since surface water can contaminate the well water if the head is situated beneath the ground.
However, some older well heads are buried below ground and some well heads are found in well pits, beneath the surface. If your current well is buried or does not meet the provincial code, the situation needs to be addressed.
The Water Shed can upgrade your older well to meet current standards either by extending the well casing or by installing a pitless adapter. These procedures must be carried out by a certified well driller.
